ShiftCheque Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the ShiftCheque Android application and the shiftcheque.pages.dev website do with information.
1. The short version
- No account. ShiftCheque does not require a sign-up, an email address or a login.
- Local by default. The jobs, shifts, rates, notes and estimates you enter are stored on your device, not on a ShiftCheque server.
- No bank connection. ShiftCheque never asks for bank credentials and cannot read your bank account.
- No SIN. We do not ask for a Social Insurance Number.
- Advertising and subscriptions are third-party services. The free tier is planned to use Google AdMob, and subscriptions are handled by Google Play with RevenueCat. Those services process limited technical and purchase information under their own policies, as described below.
2. What is stored on your device
ShiftCheque keeps a local database inside the app's private storage on your phone. Depending on what you enter and configure, that can include:
- jobs and any nickname you give them
- wage, rate and effective-date history
- shifts, scheduled and actual times, breaks and work schedules
- pay estimates and the rules and assumptions used to produce them
- paycheque comparison values you type in (for example a net deposit or gross figure)
- deduction configuration, tax and payroll settings, and year-to-date amounts you choose to enter
- notes you attach to shifts
- app preferences such as theme, language, notification choices and app-lock settings
This data is used to calculate your estimates and to show them to you. It is not uploaded to a ShiftCheque server, and ShiftCheque has no server that stores it.
Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage, removes this data unless you created a backup file yourself. Backups are files you export and store or share yourself; see Deleting your data.
3. What we do not ask for
ShiftCheque does not require or request:
- your Social Insurance Number
- bank usernames, passwords or account credentials
- precise GPS location
- access to your contacts
- your SMS or call contents
- microphone recordings
- camera access
The Android build explicitly blocks location, camera, microphone, contacts and SMS permissions, so no dependency can quietly add them. The permissions ShiftCheque can ask for are:
- Notifications (optional): only if you allow them, to remind you about shifts and paydays. Declining changes nothing else in the app.
- Device authentication (optional): if you switch on the app lock, Android handles the biometric or PIN prompt. ShiftCheque never receives your fingerprint or PIN.
4. Advertising in the free version
The free version of ShiftCheque is planned to show a limited amount of advertising through Google AdMob, and advertising is only ever enabled after a user has been using the app for a while. Ads are not shown during onboarding, shift entry, pay breakdowns, paycheque checking or purchase flows.
Advertising SDKs such as Google AdMob may process device and app information, advertising identifiers, approximate (not precise) location derived from network information, consent signals, diagnostics and ad interaction data, in order to serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud. That processing is governed by Google's own privacy policy and by the consent choices you make. ShiftCheque requests non-personalised ads.
ShiftCheque Pro is intended to remove ShiftCheque advertising entirely, and the app suppresses ad loading for subscribers where practical.
5. Subscriptions and purchases
Subscriptions are intended to be sold through Google Play and managed with RevenueCat. ShiftCheque does not receive your full payment-card details; Google Play processes the payment.
To manage entitlements, subscription and purchase identifiers, product identifiers, entitlement status, renewal or expiry dates, and a store or app-user identifier may be processed by Google Play and RevenueCat. If you buy, restore or open a subscription screen, that information may be sent to those services. A cached copy of your entitlement status is kept on your device so the app works offline and does not downgrade you when the network is unavailable.
6. Rule and configuration updates
ShiftCheque can optionally download updated rule and configuration files (for example verified payroll parameters, employment-standard thresholds and monetization settings). When that feature is enabled, a normal HTTPS request is made to the hosting infrastructure, which may process standard technical request information such as an IP address, timestamps and a user agent. If the download fails, the app continues to work offline using the rules already on your device.
7. Analytics and crash reporting
ShiftCheque does not currently send product analytics or crash reports. The production configuration ships without any analytics or crash-reporting endpoint, so nothing of that kind leaves your device today.
If a future version enables either, this policy will be updated first, and the design is already limited to a fixed list of event names — such as “onboarding completed” or “shift added” — with no wages, hours, shift times, employer names, notes, deduction amounts or any other value you enter. Crash messages are stripped of numbers and identifiers before they could be sent.
8. Sensitive financial information
ShiftCheque exists to work with wage and pay information, so we treat that content as sensitive. The information you enter stays on your device as described above. ShiftCheque does not intentionally sell the wage, shift, rate or paycheque information you enter, and it is not used to build advertising audiences or credit profiles.
Two honest qualifications: the advertising and subscription services listed above operate under their own policies and may process technical and purchase data; and anyone with access to your unlocked device — or to a backup file you exported — can read what you entered, which is why the app offers an optional app lock.
9. This website
This website is a static site. It does not set cookies, does not run analytics or marketing pixels, and does not load third-party scripts or fonts. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, and Cloudflare may keep operational and security logs (such as IP address, request time and user agent) as a hosting provider; that processing is governed by Cloudflare's own policies.
10. Retention
Data stored on your device remains there until you delete it, clear the app's storage or uninstall the app — subject to any backup files you created separately, which remain wherever you saved them.
For third-party services (Google Play, RevenueCat, Google AdMob, the rule-update host), retention is determined by the relevant provider's policies.
11. Deleting your data
Because ShiftCheque has no account, there is no account to delete and no account-deletion request process. You can remove local data by:
- clearing the app's storage in Android settings (Settings → Apps → ShiftCheque → Storage → Clear data), or
- uninstalling the app, or
- using the app's backup import flow with the “replace everything” option, which clears local data before importing a file you choose.
A one-tap “Delete all local data” action is planned for a future update. Until it ships, the paths above are the supported ways to remove everything stored on the device.
If you want a copy of your data first, export a backup before clearing anything.
12. Security
Reasonable safeguards are built into the design rather than promised absolutely: a local-first architecture that avoids storing pay data on a server, minimal Android permissions with location, camera, microphone, contacts and SMS explicitly blocked, reliance on Android's own app sandbox and device security, an optional app lock using Android device authentication, and encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS) for the limited network services the app uses.
No system is perfectly secure. Keep your device protected, and remember that a backup file you export is only as safe as the place you put it — backups are not encrypted by the app at this time.
13. Children
ShiftCheque is designed for working adults and general adult use. It is not directed at children, and it is not designed to collect information from children.
14. Where information is processed
Your app data stays on your device. Where third-party services are involved — advertising, purchase processing and entitlement management, rule updates, and the hosting of this website — information may be processed outside your province or territory and outside Canada by those providers. ShiftCheque does not claim that all processing stays within Canada.
15. Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated when the app changes in a way that affects it — for example when advertising is switched on for the free tier, when analytics or crash reporting is introduced, or when a business identity and contact address are established. The effective date at the top of this page will change and the revised version will be published here.
