ShiftCheque Support
Plain answers to the problems people actually hit. No ticket numbers, no runaround.
What ShiftCheque does
ShiftCheque turns your shifts into an estimated take-home figure using published Canadian payroll parameters, shows how close you are to overtime in your employer's work week, works out what another shift may add, and compares your estimate with what actually landed in your bank account. It needs no account and keeps your entries on your device.
Quick answers
Is my pay information sent to a server?
No. Your jobs, shifts, rates, notes and estimates live in the app's own storage on your phone. Advertising (free tier) and subscription management (Pro) use third-party services that process limited technical and purchase information — the privacy policy describes this precisely.
Do I need to make an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no login and no email required.
Can I use ShiftCheque for more than one job?
Multiple jobs with separate rates, work weeks, schedules and rules are part of the planned Pro tier. The free experience covers one job fully.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Calculations run on your device and work in airplane mode. Only optional things — ads, subscription checks and rule updates — need a connection.
Troubleshooting
My pay estimate looks different from my paycheque
- Open the pay breakdown and read “How did you calculate this?” — it lists the work-week start, pay period, rate history, overtime rule and payroll rule version used.
- Check the hourly rate and any effective-dated rate change. A late-entered raise is the most common cause.
- Check your year-to-date CPP and EI (Settings → Pay estimates). Annual maximums change what is deducted later in the year.
- Check whether deductions you have on your payslip — union dues, benefits, pension, RRSP — are configured. Those reduce take-home without changing gross.
- Use Check My Pay and enter the deposit amount plus the payslip lines you have. The comparison flags which figures differ and lists ordinary explanations to check.
My overtime looks different
- Confirm the work-week start day. Overtime is counted per work week, and many employers do not use the pay period as the work week.
- Confirm the thresholds: some provinces apply daily overtime, some weekly only, some both with the greater amount payable.
- If your workplace has a collective agreement, averaging arrangement or industry exemption, set your own rule in the job settings — ShiftCheque uses your rule instead of the standard one.
- Remember that only verified rules are applied automatically; where a rule cannot be verified, the app asks you to configure it rather than guessing.
I changed employers or got a raise
- Add the new rate with its effective date: the job settings keep rate history so past shifts keep the rate that applied then.
- For a new employer, add a second job so rates, schedules, work weeks and rules stay separate — hours from two employers should never be combined for overtime.
I lost my data
- ShiftCheque stores data locally, so clearing app storage or uninstalling removes it. There is no cloud copy to restore, because there is no ShiftCheque account.
- If you exported a backup file, use Settings → Backup → Import. You can merge it with your current data or replace everything.
- Tip: export a backup before phone migrations or major Android upgrades.
Subscription help
- Subscriptions are sold and managed by Google Play. To cancel or change one, use your Play Store account's subscription settings.
- Reinstalled or new phone? Use “Restore Purchases” in the app so your entitlement is picked up again.
- If the app cannot reach the store while you are offline, it keeps your last known entitlement rather than downgrading you, and your data is never deleted because of a billing problem.
Ads
- Advertising is planned for the free tier only. ShiftCheque Pro is intended to remove it.
- Ads never appear during onboarding, shift entry, pay breakdowns, paycheque checking or purchases.
- If an ad fails to load, the app carries on normally — that is expected behaviour, not an error you need to fix.
Privacy
- ShiftCheque does not ask for a SIN, bank credentials, contacts, SMS, microphone or precise location, and it does not connect to your bank.
- Read the privacy policy for the full picture, including what advertising and subscription services process.
- To delete everything, clear the app's storage in Android settings or uninstall it.
