ShiftCheque Terms of Use
These terms apply when you install or use the ShiftCheque application or this website.
1. Acceptance
By installing or using ShiftCheque, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the application. If you use ShiftCheque on behalf of someone else, you confirm you are allowed to do so.
2. What ShiftCheque is
ShiftCheque is a personal planning and paycheque-checking tool for employees, particularly hourly and shift workers in Canada. It estimates pay from information you enter, using published Canadian payroll parameters and employment-standards rules.
ShiftCheque is not:
- payroll software, and it does not run payroll or pay anyone
- accounting, bookkeeping or tax-preparation software
- a bank, a lender, a cash-advance or earned-wage-access service, or a money-transfer service
- a payroll, tax, accounting or legal adviser
3. Personal-use licence
You receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use ShiftCheque for your own non-commercial purposes on devices you control. You may not resell, sublicense, rent, or provide the app as a service to others, and you may not use it to operate payroll or tax services for third parties.
4. Payroll estimates
Estimates are produced from the data you enter. Statutory deductions such as CPP, CPP2, EI, QPP, QPP2, QPIP and income tax are calculated from published parameters for the relevant pay date, but your employer's payroll system governs what you are actually paid. Rounding, year-to-date values, claim amounts, employer-specific plans and payroll timing can all change the result.
5. Employment-law estimates
Overtime, vacation and holiday handling are modelled from verified published rules for the jurisdiction you select, or from workplace rules you configure yourself. Employment standards vary by jurisdiction and are subject to exemptions, averaging arrangements, collective agreements and industry-specific provisions. Except where a rule is marked as verified and in force for the relevant date, ShiftCheque does not apply a legal rule automatically and will ask you to configure your workplace's own rule instead.
6. Tax estimates
Tax figures are withholding estimates based on general published formulas, not a tax assessment, not a tax return and not advice about your tax position. Your actual liability depends on your whole situation.
7. User-entered data
You are responsible for the information you enter: hours, rates, breaks, premiums, schedules, claim amounts, year-to-date values and payslip figures. ShiftCheque does not verify your entries against any employer system, and it cannot detect a timesheet error at your workplace.
8. Configuration accuracy
The quality of an estimate depends on your configuration: hourly rate and rate history, work-week start day, pay frequency and pay-period anchor, overtime thresholds, premiums, vacation method, rounding and jurisdiction. If your workplace differs from what is configured, the estimate will differ from your paycheque. Every estimate shows the rules and assumptions behind it so you can check and correct them.
9. Subscriptions
ShiftCheque Pro is intended to be sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Google Play. Planned Canadian launch price: CA$0.99/month is a planned launch price for Canada and is not a guarantee; the price you pay is the price shown in the store at the time of purchase, in your local currency.
Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, and are managed and cancelled through your Google Play account rather than through ShiftCheque. Refunds are handled under the store's policies. If a subscription ends, you keep the data you created; features that require Pro simply stop being available.
10. Free tier and advertising
The free tier is intended to be funded by limited advertising. Advertising is not shown during onboarding, shift entry, pay breakdowns, paycheque checking or purchase flows, and ShiftCheque Pro is intended to remove advertising entirely. Ad availability is not guaranteed: if an ad cannot be loaded, the app continues to work normally.
11. Third-party services
ShiftCheque relies on third-party services including Google Play (distribution and billing), RevenueCat (subscription entitlement management) and Google AdMob (advertising in the free tier). Your use of those services may be subject to their own terms and policies. ShiftCheque is not responsible for third-party services, and a third-party outage may temporarily affect purchases, restoration or advertising.
12. Intellectual property
The ShiftCheque name, application, visual design, text and underlying calculation engine are owned by the independent ShiftCheque developer or used with permission. These terms do not transfer any ownership to you. Official government publications, rates and thresholds used as inputs are not owned by ShiftCheque.
13. Prohibited use
You agree not to:
- use ShiftCheque for anything unlawful, or to misrepresent pay figures to any person or authority
- reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the calculation rules for the purpose of building a competing product
- interfere with, overload or attempt to bypass the app's licensing, advertising or subscription controls
- resell, rebrand or redistribute the app or its outputs as a payroll or tax service
14. Availability
ShiftCheque is provided on an “as available” basis. Features may change, and rule data may be updated as official parameters change. Core calculations are designed to work offline, but optional services (advertising, subscriptions, rule updates) require network access and may be unavailable.
15. Disclaimers
ShiftCheque provides estimates for personal planning and paycheque checking. Payroll, tax treatment, employment standards, workplace agreements and individual circumstances can vary. ShiftCheque is not payroll, tax, accounting or legal advice. To the fullest extent permitted by law, ShiftCheque is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy for any particular payroll, tax or legal outcome.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the independent ShiftCheque developer is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, lost wages, missed entitlements or decisions made in reliance on an estimate. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the application in the twelve months before the claim or CA$5. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law.
17. Termination
You may stop using ShiftCheque at any time by uninstalling it. These terms end when you stop using the app, or earlier if you breach them. Sections that by their nature should survive — intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law — continue to apply.
18. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the product changes, for example when subscriptions or advertising go live. The effective date at the top of this page will change and the revised version will be published here. Continuing to use ShiftCheque after an update means you accept the revised terms.
19. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights that apply to you.
